For partners

Help a family take the next step.

Pantries, clinics, schools, faith groups, and community organizations are often the first place a family asks for help. Here is how to point them to WIC with confidence.

Three ways to help

Share the official link

Send families to the Louisiana WIC page on how to apply. It always has the current steps.

How to apply

Connect them to a clinic

Help a caregiver find the nearest clinic and call to ask about getting started.

Find a clinic

Remind them to use WIC first

When families shop with both WIC and SNAP, the WIC card goes first at checkout.

Sample messages

Use these as written or adapt them for your newsletter, text line, or front desk.

Short and friendly. Expecting, or have a child under 5? WIC may help with healthy food and nutrition support. Start here: louisianawic.org/about-wic/how-to-apply/

For caregivers. Grandparents, dads, and foster parents can ask a WIC clinic about enrolling a child. Find a clinic: louisianawic.org/locations/find-a-clinic/

For families already enrolled. Shopping with WIC and SNAP? Tell the cashier you are using WIC, and pay with your WIC card first.

Good conversation tips

  • Say that the clinic decides eligibility. Avoid promising that someone will qualify.
  • Invite questions about who can come to the first visit and what to bring.
  • Offer to help look up a clinic or store, or to make the call together.
  • Keep applications, income papers, and card numbers out of your own forms and messages. Enrollment happens with the official program.
